The lama’s: History
A HQ in Leuven (Belgium) - nights of partying – wakeboard - fast contact over the internet and cell phone - rum cola - swimming @ night (argue with neighbors) – chilli con carne – snow – always on the road – surfing – lasagna – Belgian open – tartiflette – love - trampoline = lama!
Lama consists of a group of riders, totally fucked up, living the life and doing their thing.
It all started in 2008. Christophe and Ben Cox were making a thesis on freestyle snowboarding. In order to have some good footage they contacted Anthony Smits and Christophe Reynders. One led to another and we all stayed in touch during the thesis process. One night after working on the thesis we all got drunk and ended up on the rooftop of an apartment building. As drinking alcohol has a dehydratating influence, we were all pissing from the rooftop. Also, drinking has an instability influence on human beings. The danger of falling into the 20 meters lower ‘Dijle’ (which is a river) popped into our minds. In order to find out whether or not the fall could kill us C. Reynders suggested to throw ‘something resembling the weight of a human being’ into the river, say:
“Like a rock or so” (human body = rock?!) Whahahaha. Reynders repons: “oh let it be”, or in Dutch: “laat maar”, or in dialect + spiced up with some alcohol-Dutch: “LAMA”
As time evolved we kept getting together, partying, hanging and snowboarding. Anthony and Christophe De Groof became ‘head-lama’s’ or ‘opperlama’s’. As they wanted to extend their kingdom, the search for other lama’s began. Quickly Anthony’s brother Seppe (small lama or ‘kleine lama’) and Bjorn Simons (slim lama or ‘smalle lama’) joined the crew.
Our objective is to help the sport grow, help Belgium become a great participant in the sport, help young people learn how to ride, help riders to get a decent education as a trainer, to help and to enjoy SNOWBOARDING!
